Reaching the Nations from Your Doorstep

With world evangelism as a priority, Christians have moved all over the world taking the Gospel to every nation of the earth.  Personally, Cindy and I have spent the last seven years starting churches and campus ministries in university areas in New Zealand and Malaysia.  And we know first hand the challenges and costs that Americans face while serving overseas as missionaries.

However, we no longer need to move overseas to full fill the Great Commission of “Making disciples of every nation.”   Today, students from other countries come to the United States to study at our colleges and universities and earn bachelors, masters, or doctoral degrees, and even engage in post-doctoral work. Reaching the Nations from Your Doorstep

Happy holidays from the Simpsons!  We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family. For the first time since 2003, we were able to spend Thanksgiving with my extended family.  It was an awesome time filled with laughter, great food, reminiscing, and beautiful weather in Nashville.  It was especially rewarding to see Hannah, John, Christian and Daniel play with all there cousins for the first time.

Cindy and I continue to plan and prepare for our move to Seattle to help re-plant a church and campus ministry very near the University of Washington.  But until then, we have fully engaged with the international student ministries we helped start at UNC, Duke and NC State. Read more

iMix – International Ministry and Interest Exchange

Posted on by John in Uncategorized | Comments Off on iMix – International Ministry and Interest Exchange
For seven years, our family served on the overseas mission field.  But now, God has brought the mission field to our doorstep here in the US.  Literally, we are seeing opportunities to share the Good News with people from so many nations from the comfort of our own home.

As we have settled back in NC for a season of support development and preparation for Seattle, we have also returned with the same passion to reach the nations found in Raleigh-Durham and the Research Triangle Park.

This week alone, we have connected with people from Iran, Pakistan, Nepal, Algeria, China, Indonesia and many others nations.  All of these nations have extreme restrictions on evangelism and the Christian church.  And yet here these foreigners find themselves in the most “Gospel saturated” nation on the earth.  What an amazing opportunity to fulfill the Great Commission! Around the World and Back Again

Posted on by John in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Around the World and Back Again

We made it!  Around the world and back again. Kuala Lumpur to Singapore to Tokyo to Atlanta to Savannah to Raleigh. Four kids, four flights, 15 check in bags, 6 carry on bags, 11,000 miles and 21+ hours in the air.  It is good to be “home”. But to be honest, after 7 years abroad in New Zealand and Malaysia we’re not sure where is “home”.

Let me start by apologizing for the lack of communication the last 2 months.  This has been an incredibly busy time for Cindy and I and our family. Making the move back from Malaysia involved so much faith, physical strength and was emotionally draining. Read more

Returning to US for a New Season

Posted on by John in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Returning to US for a New Season

Greetings from Malaysia! Hopefully all is well with you and your family. As promised, Cindy and I wanted to share more with you regarding our transition.

This week is our seven year anniversary of departing the US for the mission field. Together, we have help plant some amazing churches in New Zealand and Malaysia and have seen hundreds of young people come to know Jesus. This is cause for rejoicing for the impact we have made together. Thank you from the bottom of our heart for making it possible.

For some time Cindy and I have known our season in Malaysia was coming to an end, and that God had something significant ahead for us. This past year, we have been seeking God and talking with our pastor and several Every Nation leaders trying to discern God’s will regarding our next ministry assignment. Read more

Beachside Baptism in the Shadow of the Mosque

Happy resurrection day to you!  We hope you had an awesome weekend celebrating the greatest news of all time; Jesus has risen from the grave.  Jesus resurrection gives us great confidence to boldly proclaim the message of the cross in a land filled with Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus who devoutly worship their gods and gurus who are now buried in the ground.

As you may know, I just returned from a 3 week trip to Manila and the US.  It was long journey, but was made worth it by the time I spent with friends and family.  After 18 months abroad, it was a great encouragement to see everyone. Read more

“Tried in the Fire”- Persecution in Penang

Posted on by John in Uncategorized | Comments Off on “Tried in the Fire”- Persecution in Penang

Before I share anything this month, I want to say thank you for faithfully standing with our family and our Malaysian church plant through prayer and partnership.  In the last few months Cindy and I and the Penang churches have been “tried in the fire, but we are coming out gold”.  And when we walk through the challenges, it is great encouragement to have friends like you walking with us.

First, let me share a huge shaking the churches in Penang have recently been through.  Last month, our church helped host a conference Unashamedly Ethical.  This conference was a gathering of business people and pastors making a stand against corruption of all forms in Malaysia.  Subsequently, a meeting was arranged with the Chief Minister of Penang Lim Guan Eng, a Chinese and fellow Christian. Farewell My Dear Friend Nonoy; The Passing of a Co-Worker

Posted on by John in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Farewell My Dear Friend Nonoy; The Passing of a Co-Worker

What a month of highs and lows it has been here in Penang.  In the past few weeks, we’ve seen our church family give birth and get married. We’ve seen new believers and “pre-believers” make huge steps closer to God. We packed and said goodbye to our co-workers Jojo and Ida Henson who returned to Manila.  And we said a final farewell to a dear missionary friend who passed away last week in Penang.

Let me start with the good news, the Lord continues to bring the broken hearted into our lives and the church.  New faces are visiting Eagle Point each week and our seating capacity is being maxed out and a second service is not far away.  But we care far more about hearts being transformed by Jesus then seats being filled. Big Wave Surfing and the Trials of Life

Posted on by John in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Big Wave Surfing and the Trials of Life

Does life ever feel like you are surfing a huge wave that just keeps growing bigger and closer?  Do you feel like you’ve wiped out and are being driven deep under the water by the whitewash of a massive wave? The wave of life feel like it’s going to take you under?

Maybe it’s the financial trials of today, maybe it’s your busted relationships, maybe the pile of work never ends, maybe the bad choices of yesterday have tracked you down and there’s no escape.  Or maybe you just look at your life and cannot figure out why the trials keep coming. I know how this feels! Read more

Every Nation – New Zealand World Conference Performance

Posted on by John in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Every Nation – New Zealand World Conference Performance

You may know by now, Cindy and I just spent 4 years in Auckland, New Zealand.  It was the most amazing season of our lives.  We were there helping plant a few churches that would reach a young generation of Kiwis with the greatest news ever!

Since we moved to SE Asia and now back to the US, we have been asked numerous times what we miss most about New Zealand.  Our response is the same every time, we miss the Pacific Island people. Here is a video from one of our ministries world conferences.  The performers are all from our church in Auckland.  Way to go Every Nation-Auckland!

Enjoy this amazing performance and let us know what you think.

Happy thanksgiving to you and your family!  Hopefully, you are preparing for a wonderful holiday season with your together.  This Thanksgiving we want you to know how grateful we are to all those who uphold our church planting work in Malaysia.  You have been a blessing to our family and we are grateful.

My apologies for the delay in this email.  We have fallen a bit behind in our communications.   But so many exciting things have taken place since our last email.

The church continues to flourish under the new local leadership, Pastor Jonathon and his wife Mee Yeok.  And last month we held a 5th anniversary celebration that saw our largest crowd ever, almost 250 attended.  What began 5 yrs ago as a Bible study at a local university, has now grown into a thriving local church.  Most exciting is that new people continue to be saved and added to the church. A Picture Paints a Thousand Words

An early Emperor of the Xia Dynasty in China about 4,000 years ago first said “a picture speaks a thousand words”.  If this is true, we would like to share with you 9000 words this month.  Enjoy the photos below and the story they tell.

And John, thanks so much for being a part of this awesome work in Malaysia.  Because you have helped send us to this mission field, we are able to freely pour our lives into these amazing young people and this thriving new church.  Cindy and I and our family are incredibly grateful for you.  God bless you!
