A Nigerian born girl powerfully set free from generations of torment, an “unreached” Muslim people group from China reached at Campus Harvest, an Iranian grad student comes to faith in Christ, 11 Chinese baptized and a huge promotion for Cindy.  These are just some of the exciting updates form here in NC.

Our apologies for the delay in this email update.  With life, family, and ministry keeping us busy, the time sure can fly by.  But we are excited to share some stories of what Father in doing in the lives of students, leaders and the nations.

One exciting story is of a young man from a Muslim “unreached” people group in China who recently came to faith in Christ at a Campus Harvest student conferences.  After returning back to China, a deep burden was placed in his heart for his people, the Uighurs.  He has since returned to the US for further equipping and training and will return to China soon to begin church planting amongst his people group.

A Bangladeshi family born again, the baptism of a former Muslim, building relationships with Turkish students and baby showers for friends from Ghana, these are just a few of the highlights from this past month!

We stand amazed at what the Father is doing in the lives of internationals here in the Triangle and are so thankful to YOU for your partnership in this work.  From around the world people are being drawn to Raleigh-Durham, but more importantly they are being drawn by the Father’s love.  One of the most profound of these drawings came recently in the lives of “Jemina” and her daughter “Mita” from Bangladesh.

Google and the Gospel, A Powerful Combination

Thanks to you, Google and the Gospel, we have two exciting stories to share this month.  One story is of a Pakastani girl who Jesus remarkably appeared to in a dream and was born again.  And another story is of a visiting scholar from Korea who walked into our church in tears, met one of international student ministers and gave her life to Christ a few days later!

Amazingly, both of these girls discovered us through a Google search for a “church in Durham.”  What stood out for both of them was that we are listed as an international church.  As we share with you each month, we have the opportunity to be missionaries without leaving home because the world is coming to us.  And these two young ladies literally showed up on the door step of our church!

The first story is of “Nadira”.  “Nadira” comes from a first generation Pakistani family now in the US.  Currently she is studying for an advance degree at a local university.  After suffering a mental breakdown last year due to the stresses of her life, Jesus appeared to her in a dream and revealed he truly was God.  Not long after “Nadira” gave her life to Christ and ultimately moved to North Carolina.  Just a few weeks back she visited our church for the first time and said she “felt like she was home.”

Help Us Reach China, India and Saudi Arabia from Your Home

TableiMixPartyEdit

Fall has arrived and so has 80,000+ students from 140 nations within 10 miles of our home.  What an amazing harvest waiting to be reached!  As we labor together with you, we can make this our most fruitful year of reaching students for Christ.

What excites us most is that the international students (representing the top 1% of students from their nation) are coming from the most restricted nations on earth.  This fall on American campuses, the top 3 countries students are arriving from are China, India and Saudi Arabia!  And Saudi Arabia is listed right after North Korea, as the most restrictive nation on earth for Christians (World Watch List). What a remarkable and strategic open door the Lord has opened for us!

To start the school year, last week we hosted our “Love in Any Language” event that saw over 150 in attendance from 20+ nations.  It was a great event that opened the hearts of so many to the Gospel.  Since the event, we have seen more than a dozen Chinese students start attending our Chinese and American services at King’s Park International Church.  Praise Jesus!

Divine Appointments and Loving Our Muslim Friends

So often our Heavenly Father calls us to a path we had not planned for ourselves.  Proverbs 16:9 says it perfectly, “the heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.”  Well, two weeks ago our family planned to head  straight home after a friend’s going away party in Durham.  It was a school night and it was nearing 10 PM.  But I noticed that we were running low on gas and thought it best to go fill up.

As we pulled out ouf the gas station after filling up, we noticed a Muslim women with grocery bags on the side of the road with a rather worried look on her face.  Cindy and I knew there was no way we could pass her by.  So we stopped and introduced ourselves and offered this women a ride home.  Amany is a visiting scholar from Cairo, Egypt studying at Duke and unfortunately had missed the last bus of the day back to her home.

Amazing Group of Students at the School of Empowerment

SOEGroupPhoto I trust you are well and keeping cool this summer.   Many times during the hot summer I look forward with anticipation of the fall.  But with seasons and with life, I’m choosing to embrace what God has for me and where He has placed me today.

This past month we were privileged to host the Every Nation “School of Empowerment” here in Durham.   Approximately 30 campus and marketplace ministers came from around the world for a 21-day program that taught students about the person and power of the Holy Spirit, intercessory prayer, worship, spiritual warfare, healing and spiritual disciplines.

It was a real honor to impart to these students, and in turn they were empowered to go to nearby campuses to give ministry to people they met.  As a result, we saw many people healed from physical injuries (including the athletic director at UNC), hundreds heard the Gospel, and students and athletes were born again at Duke, UNC and NCCU!  It was an amazing time.  These students have now returned to their mission field in the US, Germany and soon Japan to pour out that which they received.  As you’ve poured into my life, this is what enables me to pour into these precious students’ lives.

Teresa Wiggins is the Director of IMix (International Ministry and Interest Exchange) here in North Carolina and asked if she could include a brief note in this month’s newsletter.

“As veteran missionaries who are both pastoral and evangelistic, the Simpson family is a critical part of IMix. They are uniquely effective in outreaching and discipling international scholars as well as training up and counseling younger leaders…Hard to imagine launching IMix without them!!” – Theresa Wiggins (Director of IMix)

We are Taking Root in North Carolina

MengCindy  Happy Spring to you!  I like Spring because of the sense of newness, new growth, the crisp, fresh air, the vibrancy of colorful sights and sounds; and the anticipation of what is ahead.

Such is a new season for the Simpson clan.  After we left Asia, we had always planned on eventually moving to Seattle to be part of the Every Nation church there.  However, after being here in North Carolina for almost 20 months, it has become apparent to us that the move out west will be alot more financially, emotionally and physically than we expected.

After much prayer and discussion with our leaders in NC and WA, we have made the very difficult decision to close the doors on a move to Seattle.
